NIPCO Donates Cylinders To Boost LP Gas Usage

As part of the effort to boost LPG utilisation in the country, the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) has taken its switch to gas campaign to the next level with the empowering large number of women in the ancient town of Auchi in South –South geopolitical zone of the country through the distribution of free gas accessories.

The free donation of gas cylinder took place in the compound of the town traditional ruler, the Otaru of Auchi, HRM Haliru Momoh was organised in conjunction with an NGO, Gas to Health Initiative [GTHI] to strengthen the paradigm shift of the energy market towards LP Gas in the country.

Prince Haruna Momoh, the Managing Director, Pipelines & Products Marketing Company [PPMC in his good will message to the beneficiaries assured the community that government will continue to support initiative aimed at promoting the safe and healthy use of LP Gas which the nation is richly endow with for the overall interest of Nigerians .

Momoh who was represented by the Engr. Betty Ugona, Manager, LPG PPMC, said the rural dwellers and the semi – urban communities are main priorities of government in view of the large cooking they do with a view to encouraging them to use gas for their cooking’s .

The PPMC MD who is also the chairman of the board of trustees of the GTI commended Nipco for supporting the initiative stressing that the cylinders donated will help boost efforts of the NGO and ultimately deepen gas usage among beneficiaries .

He listed the key objectives of GTI to include: improving health by substituting other fuels, particularly firewood and kerosene for LP Gas, promote rapid growth for the domestic gas market, promote availability and competitiveness among others.

According to him, LP Gas remains most efficient cooking fuel even as government is doing its best to promote its consumption but noted that its usage is still low due to the missing gap of adequate publicity and awareness on its benefits over other cooking fuels .

He maintained that the issue of accessories which is one of the drawbacks of usage of the product are being addressed through plethora of support by stakeholders via the free distribution of the items to the people.

While receiving the stakeholders who came for the epoch making event, the Otaru, HRM Momoh thanked the supporters and initiators of the dream which has seen his subjects receive the accessories said the noble venture is another plus to his reign stressing that even with very late announcement, the event elicited tremendous attendance.

He enjoined the GTI and its supporting companies to make campaign an eternal one and not in any way ad-hoc in view of the attendant benefits of gas over other cooking fuels adding that the traditional institution will always provide an enabling environment to facilitate the scheme.

The paramount ruler noted that in no distant future Nigeria will rank with other civilised world where gas has become the domestic cooking fuel of note with posterity being on the side of porters of this great initiative. .

In his own message, the Managing Director, Nipco, Mr Venkataraman Venkatapathy said the company supported the initiative with the donation of varying sizes of cylinders to remove the burden of procuring them.

The MD who spoke through the Corporate Affairs Manager, Lawal Taofeek said the feat is part of the overall objective of the company to reach out in line with her corporate social responsibility to the citizenry from all parts of the country.

A safety pamphlet specially prepared by the company to guide LP Gas users as part of her efforts to guarantee safety of life and properties while using gas stove was distributed to participants at the event which attracted hundreds of people mostly women.
