As the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) began full enforcement and arrest of unlatched containers on the roads, the rate of containers falling off vehicles is expected to reduce.
FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer for Ogun and Lagos, Shehu Zaki, disclosed this to newsmen during routine patrol of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last week.
Zaki said that the patrol was targeted at trucks carrying unlatched containers and the penalty for trucks carrying unlatched containers was N250,000.
We hope this system is not exploited by FRSC officials to extort bribes from non-compliant vehicles but the initiative should be adhered to strictly to enhance the safety of lives and property in the nation.
