Although this development is appalling,  it reminds one of ‘The Beggar’s Strike’, a novel written by Aminata Sow Fall.
In the prose, an account of a fictional strike determines the fate of the political class.
In the novel, a plan of military precision is put into action to rid the streets of beggars but the beggars were organized and withdrew their service which sparked panic among the political elites and businessmen.
