BEARS: Bush Meat Becomes Hunter

The hunter became the bush meat when the Comptroller-General of Customs patrol team on routine assignment was attacked last week by smugglers at the toll gate end of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, leaving their patrol van burnt and officers injured.

Some of the Customs operatives from the Federal Operations Unit ’A’ Ikeja, had earlier laid ambush on the smugglers disposing them of contraband items, mainly frozen poultry products and the smugglers mobilized in large numbers and engaged the Customs operatives in a gun battle.

Whilst the Customs Service can take solace in the fact that no officer was lost. This goes to show the level of resilience smugglers have. They probably have associations or unions to have returned with alacrity and make an impact.

They demolished the vehicles of the Customs officers who confessed to have escaped by the whiskers!
