The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) emerged as the best agency in the Nigerian transport sector in 2018, according to the Money Management Series (MMS) Transport Agency’s ratings for 2018.

AIB pulled the highest percentage with 55% in the fiscal year which saw other transport agencies rated below 50% as the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) ranked second with 48%.

The rating was conducted by MMS Plus newspaper, a transport sector weekly publication and online newsblog covering Aviation, Maritime, Finance and Oil and Gas sectors.

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron was rated third with 43% while Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) ranked fourth with 42%.

Other transport agencies in the rating include; the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) , Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

AIB’s core function is to improve aviation safety by determining the circumstances and causes of air accidents and serious incidents, hence, the Bureau’s performance was enhanced by the lack of aviation accidents in 2018.

It should also be noted that AIB was able to release to the public 21 final accident reports, In 2018, AIB also released about 154 safety recommendations to airlines, agencies and aircraft manufacturers and this has been of great benefit to the sector. Therefore its dedication, hard work and commitment to ensuring that the aviation sector continues to grow earned it this prestigious position ahead of other transport agencies in the country.

In his comments on this award, the Editor-In-Chief of MMS Plus, Mr. Kingsley Anaroke urged other transport agencies to emulate the commitment showed by the Accident Investigation Bureau to move the transport sector forward.
