Unemployment And The Alarming Rate Of Civil Service Recruitment Scam
In recent times several government parastatals have been forced to publicly debunk rumours that their organizations we carrying out any recruitment exercise as a result of gimmicks by scammers.
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) issued a circular a fortnight ago on this issue, while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) did the same last week.
Customs and NCAA say there is no ongoing recruitment exercise in the agency as being advertised by some online media platforms where applicants would end up being lured to pay monies.
The General Manager, Public Relations of NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, noted that the recruitment post making rounds on social media about various positions advertised on the NCAA’s website was misguided and a misinterpretation of a Federal Government initiative.
“For the purpose of clarity, the career programme on the NCAA website is an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria. It was created to collate data of eligible Nigerians, who wish to pursue career in the aviation industry and to tackle unemployment in Nigeria.
“The database of Pilots, Cabin crew, Engineers etc, would be made available for emerging aviation career opportunities in Nigeria and other countries,’’ he said in a statement.
According to Adurogboye, the NCAA is driving this programme as a Federal Government agency for the benefit of unemployed aviation professionals.
He urged the public to disregard the fictitious advertisement, adding that the NCAA would duly notify them if and when job opportunities become available.
Meanwhile, at the Customs the Public Relations department warned the public on the new antic on Customs recruitment scam.
“Have you recently seen or received an advert on WatsApp or Facebook about a purported mass recruitment exercise into various cadres of the Nigeria Customs Service? Well, take a second look, even if the adverts look authentic and persuasive.  The use of the authentic Customs Website www.customs.gov.ng may sway many desperate job seekers”, the PR unit said in a press statement.
No matter how smart criminals may be they always leave something to give them away. Since their intention is to scam people, a point of payment is always incorporated in their adverts.
This is not possible with the authentic website. A fake one like the “www.customsrecruit.com.ng/vacancy.pdf” was therefore created to request payment before forms are completed.
On a daily basis, the Nigeria Customs Service and other notable government agencies receive complaints from victims of fraudsters who have been duped of various amounts running into millions of naira.  So, it is important to know that fraudsters are on prowl duping unsuspecting and desperate job seekers.
Legal recruitment into the Civil Service will be announced on nationwide print and electronic media and published extensively on the official website of the various agencies such as;www.customs.gov.ng and these official recruitment application are usually FREE OF CHARGE at all levels.
