In a gesture of genuine quest for peace in the Niger Delta Region and Nigeria at large, the National Chairman of Traditional Rulers of Oil and Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria, TROMPCON and the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area, HRM Owong (Dr.) Effiong Bassey Archianga JP, FCE, FCAI, has condemned the poor handling of the recent South – South Security Summit organised by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, at Ibom Hall, in Akwa Ibom State, describing it as inconclusive.
The event which had the distinct appearance of a well planned summit, turned out to be a costly political stunt, giving no recognition to Traditional Institution to make their vital contributions as traditional costudians of peace in the Niger Delta Region.
HRM Archianga took special exception to the slight by the organisers of the summit, reasoning that “there is no way such important occasion
could be held in his domain as the National Chairman of TROMPCON of nine oil producing states in Nigeria, and he is not recognized to address the summit”, adding that, “no good visitors would enter someone’s house without the permission of the landlord”.
Speaking further with newsman shortly after the summit, the TROMPCON Chairman Challenged the stakeholders of the national security to live up to their expectations without politicising the security of the nation in times like this. He acknowledged the many challenges bedevilling Nigeria at 57, but maintained the optimism that “we can build a nation of our dream through dialogue and restructuring, so that the Labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain”.
The TROMPCON Chairman went on to call for Restructuring, true Federalism, devolution of power and social justice in Nigeria as a means to check marginalisation and to reposition the nation. He expressed the hope that an economically viable society could be possible if our leaders would deploy the abounding natural resources to create jobs for our youths and plan for growth and development.
The Udammung I of Ibenoland use the opportunity to appeal to Nigerians not to use their positions, religion, tribe and cultural differences as instruments for disunity, but should rather promote unity in diversity. The royal father urged all to celebrate the beauty in diversity by utilising the differences as galvanising ingredients to forge a strong bond of friendship and unity, respecting each other’s shared boundaries of belief and thoughts, pointing out that traditional Rulers are well positioned to deepen the bond of our nationhood.
The TROMPCON Chairman asserted his confidence that Nigeria will remain one indivisible country where equity, justice and Fairplay shall prevail. He called on the government to prevail on the oil multinationals to relocate their operational headquarters from the nation’s capital, to the core oil producing communities as a panacea for lasting peace.
