The Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, says the agency is building on the current safety profile of the nation’s airspace.

Akinkuotu, who made the remarks in a statement to mark his first anniversary as the MD/CEO of NAMA, said the focus of his administration going forward would be to continue to propel the agency to provide customers and clients with the best service at all times.

“We will make sure that flights depart and land safely even in adverse weather conditions, maintain a well-trained and well-motivated workforce, and do everything we can to sustain and improve upon the safety record of the Nigerian airspace. In doing so, NAMA solicits the synergy and cooperation of all stakeholders in the aviation sector to succeed,” he said.

He noted that despite several challenges the agency faced in the past year, it had recorded remarkable achievements in certain critical areas such as the replacement of Instrument Landing Systems in two strategic airports in the country.

Akinkuotu listed other achievements to include increase in staff training and improvement in staff welfare.

“Many of our colleagues received their long-awaited promotion across the line all the way to general manager grade level, and it was particularly pleasing to see three of our very own elevated to the esteemed position of substantive director in the agency,” he added.

He stated that in a bid to ensure seamlessness in air navigation in the country, the agency had committed enormous resources to providing necessary facilities especially in the areas of communication, navigation and surveillance equipment.

“Management’s policy on capacity building has precipitated the training of different categories of critical staff to effectively man these sophisticated technologies,” he said.

Akinkuotu said there was ample evidence that NAMA was moving forward and enjoined the workers to rally round the administration in its quest to take the agency to the next level by showing more dedication and commitment to their duties.
