The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has officially unveiled guidelines aimed at ensuring smooth leadership transition of its chapters for the year 2017.
In a special meeting on Tuesday, 23rd October 2017, at its National headquarters, Lagos, the NAGAFF Electoral Commission (NECOM) ably chaired by Mr. Okey Nerus, highlighted the modified electoral guidelines for contestants and voters into various chapter’s leadership positions of the association which includes: verifiable minimum of three (3) months full membership registration with NAGAFF; CRFFN full membership registration; evidence of education, emphatically as Alumni of NAGAFF Academy or any affiliated maritime institutions and many others.
Earlier in his opening address, NAGAFF president, Chief Increase Uche, highlighted some achievements of NAGAFF in the past years which include its ability to successfully conduct elections that midwived new leadership.
“NAGAFF has moved from stabilization period to democratization which is needed for regular leadership baton exchange. We currently have over five thousand (5000) members and over twenty (20) chapters and guidelines for all the chapters in the six geo-political zones in the country. It is expected that we play by the rules and ensure a rancor free election this year. The guidelines is very clear including registration fee and don’t forget that there are three stages of registration. I am happy that we have got to this level and all the materials are in print” Mr Increase said.
While calling for members maximum cooperation, he noted that NAGAFF has been unarguably a source of blessings to so many members.
On his part, the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Aniebonem Boniface admonished the press to restrain from concocting unfounded reports about NAGAFF.
“NAGAFF is not an organization that anybody can run down. We have to understand that NAGAFF has its own internal mechanisms” he said
He lamented that some NAGAFF chapters aren’t living up to expectation but only listen to gossips and exhibit actions that could lead to discord and crisis within the union. He therefore advised members to strive for knowledge, shun greed, respect each other and the association’s leadership and give room for young people to come into the system.
“today the country is drifting and we have to do something about it. Our graduates are becoming jobless on daily basis and NAGAFF has to do something. Some of us need knowledge to understand the modus operandi of the union. The constitution has empowered the president to either perform a duty or delegate responsibilities.” he said
Dr. Aniebonem also encouraged members to always dress well and acquire more education to be able to meet up with contemporary societal demands while assuring them of fair play, he warned contestants to avoid the use of deterogatory and provocative statements in the course of their campaigns.
“I am happy that more people are contesting because it is my duty to build more leaders. NAGAFF needs to grow. As regards this election, nobody is “Doctor’s Boy” or anointed candidate. We are going to develop an intelligence unit to monitor the electoral committee and anyone found guilty of promoting ethnicity or tribalism will be suspended. In Unity in diversity is our strength.” he said.
