Leah Sharibu: MMS WoFHoF Initiative Alleges Security Compromise

A Non-governmental organization, MMS Woman Of Fortune Hall of Fame(WoFHoF)Initiative has called on the Federal Government to intensify its efforts towards the release of Leah Sharibu abducted by the Boko Haram terrorist group, especially with the threat to execute her in a month’s time.

In a press statement signed by the Head, Communications and Strategy, Ms Egoli Bassey, the organization noted Leah has been held  captive  by the terrorists for over two hundred days since she was forcefully taken away alongside her school mates from Government Girls Secondary Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. While other girls were released, she has been in their custody for refusing to renounce her Christain faith.

MMS WoFHoF Initiative  again  urged President Muhammadu Buhari  to deploy all the security apparatus to make sure that Leah Sharibu is not killed, adding that all avenues should be explored to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to book.

Apart from being denied her fundamental human rights, it is a traumatic experience for a mere 15 years old girl to go through, the statement added.

While condemning what it described as ”the lackluster attitude of the government” towards the of release of Leah, MMS WoFHoF Initiative reminded the government that it has failed in its duty to protect her as a citizen of the country.

“ We are not satisfied with the efforts of the government towards her release. If Leah were the daughter of any of the political leaders in the country would she have remained unreleased? As a citizen of this country, she deserves to be protected and defended against infringement on her fundamental human rights.

“Our fear again is that the relevant security agencies vested with the responsibility of ensuring her release may have been compromised. There is also no guarantee that if Leah is not executed as threatened that she will be released without a violation of her privacy,” the statement noted.

MMS WoFHoF Initiative is a gender advocacy, leadership and empowerment focused NGO based in Lagos with a passion for producing younger generation of leaders via role modeling and mentorship.
