Lagos Complex tasks terminal operators on efficiency, compliant

The Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) has called on all terminal operators within the complex to ensure efficient operations at the hub.  The Ports Manager, LPC, Mrs Olufunmilayo Olotu, who made this call during a courtesy visit to Apapa Bulk Terminals Limited (ABTL), urged the operators to support the Federal Government’s trade facilitation agenda and cooperate with NPA in the quest for a redefined port system.

Olotu sought the support of the terminal operators to take Lagos Ports Complex to the next level in line with the agenda of the Managing Director of NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman.She advocated for cooperation among stakeholders to enhance efficiency and harmony in the ports. She also explanied that the agency is targeting improved revenue to the federal government coffers, thereby urged prompt settlement of bills by the operators.

According to her, the ABTL has been supportive in the area of ports access road, as well as being a compliant operator which has been cooperative in terms of prompt payment and settlement of bills.

As the Port landlord, the port manager expressed the NPA management’s commitment to resolve any issue arising around the ports.She said: “One major thing we are determined to do is improving processes. The letters are speedily considered and this enhances smooth work flow,”

Managing Director, ABTL, Captain Marvin Abe, said the prompt settlement of bills is a policy that the company will never compromise. He lamented limited space at the terminal, but said the firm is trying to maximise the space optimally.“In terms of efficiency, we are determined to improve, we have improved over the years. We streamlined out processes to ease the operations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Apapa, Muhammed Uba Kura, has said the call up system initiated by NPA has significantly help reduce the traffic gridlock around Apapa Ports.He promised to always ensure strict enforcement for the good of stakeholders and Lagosians generally.Olotu assured of collaboration with the Nigerian police to make the ports safer.She urged the police to support the port operations and ensure safety of operators and stakeholders around the port.
