International Women’s Day: MMS Celebrates Maritime Amazons, NPA Prioritizes Nursing Mothers/ Child WelfareAs part of activities to mark the 2019 United Nation’s International Women’s Day (IWD), MMS Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame (WoFHoF) Initiative  is set to organize MMS Hall Of Famers’ Day on the theme;“Innovating  Passion For Sustainable Living: A Night Of Empowerment & Testimonials.”

According to the organizers, the event which holds on March 19th, 2019 is in tandem with the global IWD theme ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate For Change.’

The programme  scheduled to start by 4pm at Golden Gate Restaurant, Ikoyi, Lagos will be chaired by the President, Women Arise Initiative, Dr. Joe Odumakin, while the Chief Host is Barr. Mrs. Margaret Orakwusi, Chairperson, Nigerian Ship owners’ Forum. The Managing Director of Le Look Bags, Mrs. Chinwe Ezenwa  is co-chief host ,as  former Minister of Transport, Amb. Dr. Kema Chikwe is the chief guest of honour.

According to the organizers of the event, IWD  serves  as a clarion call to action for accelerating the gender parity and a time to reflect and focus on innovative ways to empower women particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure.

Similarly, the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) joined the rest of the world in commemorating the “International Women’s Day”, (IWD), culminating in the unveiling of a standard crèche at the Lagos Premier Ports Apapa.

This being a pilot case is expected to be duplicated in other port locations nation-wide to assist nursing mother concentrate better on job, the expectant inference being greater operational efficiency.

The theme for this year’s celebration being“Balance for Better” also showcases other areas of concern as “Think Equal, Build Smart and Innovate for Change”.it is actually a clarion call for unprecedented opportunities for women, the girl child.

The anchor during the year’s celebration has been identified as the acceleration of progress for gender equality,encouragement of investment in gender-responsive social systems, and the building of services and infrastructure that meet the needs of women and girls.
