Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) burnt over three hundred cartons of frozen turkey with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N3.4million on Friday last week, at the Western Marine Customs Command, Lagos State.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Compt. Binga Benjamin announced there were two set of seizures with the first seizure of 170 cartons of frozen turkey made by the Nigerian Navy on Wednesday, last week, while the other seizure was done by the Western Marine officers on Thursday last week.

Binga, who was represented by the Staff Officer, at the Command, CSC Lawal Arisekola stated that the Customs wouldn’t relent in its efforts to clampdown on smugglers.

“These seizures show the level of harmonized operations the Customs have with other security agents as this was handed over to us by the Nigerian Navy. Our officers also made the other seizure of another 173 bags of frozen products”, he said.

The Customs boss stressed that as long as smugglers continue their business of smuggling, Customs would only intensify efforts to continuously make the seizures.

While presiding over the burning of the products, Arisekola revealed that the combined DPV of the burnt frozen products was three million, four hundred and seventy-two thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five naira (N3,472,875).

He advised smugglers to quit such activities and engage in legitimate businesses.

“A good poultry farm can be established with the value of these items. You can get the eggs and the chicken and begin a massive poultry farm with N3million. With such legitimate business, no one would harass you” he assured.
