Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC) will be donating $50m to support the University of Transportation in Daura, Katsina State today.
Amaechi explained that the establishment of the university was part of the ongoing effort of the Federal Government towards the promotion and development of local capacity through technology acquisition in the rail transport sub-sector.
He said when completed, CCECC will bring lecturers for five years to train Nigerians just as the second batch of 150 persons have left Nigeria for China to study for first degrees in different specialties of railway engineering, with the expectation that they would obtain their Masters and PhDs and return to teach at the university.
Amaechi who disclosed at the weekend during a train ride from Iju in Lagos to Ibadan said beginning from today there will be free train ride from Lagos to Ibadan.
