“Thank God there are jobless people all over Nigeria!”
There are many things one can ascribe to the goodness, faithfulness and love of God; but ascribing the appalling state of unemployment in Nigeria to God is something that is odd, silly and disrespectful to mankind and God.
Well, that statement was made by the Executive Secretary, Association of Indigenous Bonded Terminal Operators, Mr. Haruna Omolajomo recently at the Kaduna Dry Port stakeholders’ meeting.
He made futile efforts to proof the authenticity of this statement as he explained that unemployment would dissipate with the take-off of Kaduna ICD and other dry ports in future; but this was an unguarded statement.
The Nigerian Maritime space has become famous for re-echoing cliches; but this one shouldn’t become popular. Most industries in the country are taking advantage of the mass unemployment to sack employees arbitrarily, others frustrate their workforce without pay, others chose to pay grossly below the potentials and contributions of the employees but to thank God for joblessness in a public forum… It’s a shame!
