BEARS: NIMASA, NLNG In ‘Distress Limbo’

BEARS: NIMASA, NLNG In 'Distress Limbo'Although local and international laws impose a duty on both states and vessels to facilitate assistance at sea to vessels in distress, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigeria Liquified National Gas (NLNG) reportedly failed to provide assistance to a distressed vessel, resulting to the sinking of the vessel and loss of lives.

The association of trawler owners has cried out against this loss of its member’s vessel and blamed NIMASA and NLNG for not coming to the rescue of the distressed vessel, alleging that they had adequate notice to have intervened successfully.
