BEARS: It’s 39 Minutes To 11
BEARS Thumbs Dwon

One Assistant General Manager (AGM) at the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) asked a simple question last week in the Council’s boardroom “what time is it?” but the response from another AGM (also of Shippers’ Council) was prompt but shocking. He said the time was 39 minutes to 11.
More worrisome was the fact that the AGM who asked simply said thanks, which meant he was fully satisfied with the response; but journalists looked dumbfounded. MMS Plus correspondent also noticed that the AGM wasn’t wearing a digital clock.
The questions here are; Was this a simple mistake by the AGM who told the time? How did the other AGM manage to understand this time? Probably it’s the norm at the Council; it is Shippers’ Council time!
In English speech, times up to “half-past” the hour are “past”; after that they are “to” the next hour.
Shi-ke-na.
